Success Stories
Success Stories of Rescues is why we do what we do at Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue. Our breed is not very well known, and many dogs enter shelter situations become recluse. Once out of a shelter and in a home environment they return to the dogs we know and love, with a little extra time and effort they are ready to be adopted to forever homes. |
Kodi - ADOPTED!Kodi is a 10-year-old, gray and white with brown eyes, large standard, male, owner surrender who is looking for his perfect forever home after a change in family circumstances. Kodi is great with adults, children, and other dogs after he has a little time to adjust to them, but does not do well with cats. He can be shy at first but warms up quickly. Despite his age, Kodi is a very curious, high energy and playful dog. Kodi has some separation anxiety issues, and would do best in a home where someone is home much of the time, and is able and willing to work with him. **Kodi has found his forever home!!** Koto - ADOPTEDAlaskan Klee Kai National Rescue recently took in a new rescue, Koto. New volunteers drove over 1,000 miles round trip to get him out of his current situation where he was with at least his 3rd family that weren't taking very good care of him. Koto is a large mini that is 5 years old. At some point in his life, Koto suffered an injury to his right hind hip, but nothing was done to correct it. As Koto is getting more comfortable in his foster home, they are noticing more and more the trouble he is having and isn't using his leg to run or play. Koto's foster took him for a 2nd opinion with a specialist and the x-rays showed just how bad it is. Koto is being scheduled for surgery and then will have therapy. The surgery will cost approximately $1,800, but will be well worth it to give Koto a better quality of life. Koto will also need follow up care and therapy. Koto's foster said that she's been around many AKK and has never met one with such a gentle soul ~ especially considering the life he has lived so far and the amount of pain he is constantly in. She said his personality is even more beautiful than his looks.
**Update** Koto's surgery has been postponed. As he was being shaved for surgery, it was discovered that he has a staph infection. This must be cleared up before he's cleared for surgery. Additionally, they were able to see just how underweight he is. Koto is also suffering from diarrhea they are working to diagnose and treat. At some point, his eyes had been matted shut for so long that they hair folicles started growing into his eyes. It was also determined that his horrible hip injury was likely due to a kick from a boot! This poor boy has suffered so much! Yet despite all the abuse and neglect, his foster home reports that he is such a wonderful dog. He is not fond of loud noises or quick movements, which is understandable. Given enough love, proper treatment, and time, he may overcome these fears. We are SO grateful to volunteer Cathy Lingle for picking up and fostering this boy, and seeing to his medical and emotional needs. Koto is the reason we do what we do, and we are blessed to have the opportunity to give him a better life, and the loving, caring family that he deserves!!
**Koto has found his forever home* Beverly, Mr. Z, and Judas - All Adopted!Stories coming soon! Bear - ADOPTED!
Bear is a 6-year-old grey & white male, owner surrendered, AKK. He was previously adopted from AKKNR a few years ago, and is now again looking for his perfect forever home due to a change in his family's circumstances. Bear does well with adults and is a nice social boy. Bear needs a home without young children (he does best with children 12 and above), cats, or other small animals. He does not do well with most other dogs. He would do best in a home where he could be the only pet, or perhaps with one small, female, calm, easy-going dog. Bear and your current dog would have to meet and get along before adoption was considered. Bear has had a good amount of obedience training and knows several commands. Bear will be staying in his current home until adoption, so his adopter will have the opportunity to meet and talk directly with his current owner. **Bear has been adopted!** Riley - ADOPTED!Riley is a 1 1/2-year-old, grey and white, oversized male with brown eyes. He was rescued from a shelter, where he had been dumped by his previous owners. Despite a lack of socialization, Riley loves attention, and does do pretty well with strangers after a bit of initial caution. His foster mom reports that he is a huge cuddle bug, and loves to be petted. He can get defensive if he sees a raised hand, but with patience and gentle handling, this should improve. He is housetrained, and does know the command "sit." His foster mom has started working with him on a leash.
Riley does well with both men and women, but should be in a home without children. His compatibility with other animals is currently being evaluated. **Riley has been adopted!** |
