Update
AKKNR Update April 2010Update from AKKNR 501c3 Status Alaskan Klee Kai National Rescue is proud to announce that the IRS has formally granted our organization 501c3 status. This determination letter will enable us to work with more shelters and rescue organizations. Thank you to everyone who supported this effort. May Days of Summer Our fundraising event is coming up quickly. We’ve received many great donations from corporations but few from individuals in the community. Please consider supporting AKKNR and sending your donations in by April 24th. Fundraising Chair The fundraising chair is currently vacant. The outgoing chair has done a wonderful job laying a foundation for growth. To spread out the workload to be more manageable, this position has been split to two co-chair positions. If you are interested in joining or co-chairing the fundraising committee, please contact the Board of Directors at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or fill out a Volunteer Information Form on our website. Volunteer Meeting In an effort to increase transparency and improve communication, AKKNR held its first volunteer meeting to solidify volunteer roles and hear needs and concerns from our volunteers. As a result of the feedback, AKKNR has made a number of changes. Emergency Number An Emergency Phone Number has been established that will ring all of the BOD simultaneously. This will enable us to more quickly respond to a rescue in need and assist shelters and other rescue organizations who may need immediate assistance. Documentation Volunteers now have access to corporate documents including Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation, Conflict of Interest Policy, and financial documentation. All of this information has also been sent to the BOD’s of AKKAOA and UAKKA. AKKNR is exploring options to improve our website to make this information easier for volunteers to access. Communication AKKNR will continue to work to improve its communication with the community. Currently, we have the website, social media networks such as Facebook, AKKAOA and UAKKA newsletters, and a new AKKNR newsletter. We have teamed with an email marketing service to enable us to quickly distribute information and newsletters to our network of supporters. If you are interested in helping with the newsletter, please send the BOD an email. Look for more updates on this in the near future. Board Organization AKKNR has made huge leaps forward over the past few years. It is the only AKK rescue with a board of directors, a web presence, a 501c3 letter, and public disclosure of its activities. The current structure of the organization is certainly a large part of that success. Understanding that, the BOD wants to be sure AKKNR is positioned in the best place possible to be there for the dogs when they need it. The BOD has approved the establishment of a small committee to discuss an expansion of the BOD - how it could work, what the roles would be, and ultimately to be sure AKKNR is in a strong position when rescue needs arise. We are seeking a few volunteers from the community at large to be on this committee. If you are interested in contributing to this committee, please send an e-mail to the BOD expressing your interest and what involvement you have had in other rescue organizations.
