**Bandit and Chazzy are ready for a home!**
This bonded pair were surrendered by their owner, whose life circumstances made them unable to properly care for them. These intelligent 6 year old AKK are housebroken and know basic commands. They come when called in the house or yard, and use dog doors. They are food motivated and social with people. They have not yet been kid tested in the foster environment, but their previous owner claims they do great with kids. They also have high prey drive – rabbits, squirrels, cats. Some dogs give chase to cats outside, but don’t bother a confident cat in the house. These 2 haven’t been cat-tested in their foster environment yet, so we’re unsure. They will quickly take ownership of their home, giving a few steady barks at people &/or animals as they pass by the house/yard. When you’re not at home/at night, they are used to being crated together, but would prefer to have the run of the house/yard (once Chazzy proves he will stay in the yard). They both ride well in the car – they just lay down and take a nap. A bit leery of strangers, both dogs may take just a few minutes to warm up to you as a new, safe person. Within a day or so, they are likely to act like they’ve been part of the family for years.
CHASSIS (now Chazzy) is a mid-dominant male. He is easy-going with other dogs, but if pushed or challenged by them, will not hesitate to stand his ground. He is happy, high-energy, and loves life, especially outdoors. He would love to be your running, biking, hiking partner. This clever boy will play with toys, but quickly gets bored. As such, he is an accomplished escape artist – jumping, scaling, and tunneling. If he doesn’t get what he needs, he will find it himself after he gets out. He is quite responsive and eager to please you – a quick and amenable study in whatever you have to teach him. On walks, he will pull (he’d prefer to jog), but has shown some improvement at his foster home in just a couple of days. He likes to move, and will stop by for pets as he moves about the house. Chassis is such a happy dog – he can’t help but put a smile on your face!
BANDIT is a VERY dominant female. She will not do well with dominant dogs of either sex. She is a cuddle-bug, and could stand to lose a few pounds. She loves nothing more than being pet. She enjoys walks, as long as you don’t run. She immediately gets vocally distressed if separated from Chassis. She “mother-hens” him, and can get pushy and demanding, i.e., “pet me!!” and “me first!!” She may appear initially non-compliant &/or unresponsive. She is testing you!!! It will be important to implement pack hierarchy immediately. You are the first person in the door, thru the gate, etc. She only gets pets AFTER she sits. Setting the stage with these tough love basics will set you all up for long term success. She will need a strong pack leader to ensure she remains happy and well-adjusted. Otherwise she will take all matters into her own hands. With an experienced leader, you won’t find a more loving pack member!
